World-Class Climate Budget

BC is ready for a World Class Climate Budget.  In February 2007 the provincial government committed itself to bold action on climate change in their annual throne speech. However, these bold targets will require equally bold fiscal measures to actually implement, as laid out in the 2008 BC Budget. They include: a revenue-neutral Carbon Tax, major investments in transportation, a robust energy retrofit and fee-rebate program, concerted public outreach, and the phasing out of all subsidies for fossil fuel extraction.

Overheard...

"Our children, our young people are asking better of us. They are asking us to face directly the challenges of the future... not when it is convenient, but now. And today, we are rising to meet those challenges. This budget supports and adds new momentum to the government’s plan to reduce B.C.’s greenhouse gas emissions."

Finance Minister Carole Taylor (February 2008)
