Habitat Protection for Mountain Caribou

Although both political and ecological windows of opportunity are shrinking, it is not too late for BC to be positioned as an international leader by ensuring the long-term survival of the magnificent mountain caribou.  The provincial government’s own scientists have shown that a science-based recovery plan based on habitat protection and the highest level of protection can safeguard this species for generations to come. By implementing a made-in-BC recovery plan, the BC government is poised to leave a legacy of hope for this iconic species.

Overheard...

"The decline in mountain caribou did not happen overnight, and neither will the recovery. It will take several generations of mountain caribou before they reach pre-1995 levels. However, together with our partners, we are committed to doing whatever it takes."

The Honourable Pat Bell, Minister Responsible for Endangered Species  (October 19, 2007)
